EXPLORE: Since I was a child I was always interested in learning more about the world. When my mother would take me to the library I would always gravitate toward the travel section. Now as an adult I have made a commitment to visit at least one new country a year, not only for the purpose of travel, but also to immerse myself in that country’s culture. So far I have studied abroad in Rome (in my undergraduate years), hiked Yosemite Park, surfed for the first time in Costa Rica, hiked the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, climbed to the top of The Temple of Zeus in Athens, Greece; snorkeled in Belize, visited Chichen Itza in Mexico, and most recently visited Stonehenge in England. CREATE: Writing has always been a passion of mine, from short fiction to poetry and everything in between! This past summer I was fortunate enough to attend a creative writing summer program at The University of Cambridge. While there I got to study for a bit under various published writers and poets. Though it was only a short two weeks, I feel so fortunate to have been able to delve into my creative side a bit and generate some new ideas in beautiful Cambridge, England. ACHIEVE: I became a teacher because I wanted to give back in some way and be in a line of work related to service. My greatest achievement then, is seeing my students succeed. The best feeling for me is a when a student shouts “I get it now!” during a math lesson or “I love this book I am reading can I tell you about it?” As an educator I hope to instill a love of learning and a sense of achievement in all of my students.
