Mr. Geballe

Dear Graduates,
Nobody will ever say this was a boring 8th grade year, or a boring group of 8th graders!  We loved you all, even when you hid inside the bathrooms, dunked me in the water at field day, or won the student/teacher volleyball game (we’ll have to get that rematch after the quarantine is over!)  I wish you all the very best next year, and although I always say this to every class, I mean it way more this year – please come back and visit!  We never got a proper goodbye.  You all are amazing.

Mr. Geballe

PS – now that you graduated, you can call me Ben.

I think that’s something that’s hard for this country to address, is what the real issues are and coming to the point where we can admit that these are issues. Once we admit that, we can deal with it, we can fix them, and we can make this country and these communities a better place.

But in order to change, you have to be able to agitate people at times. And I think that’s something that’s very necessary for us to improve as a country.”         — Colin Kaepernick

Dear Class of 2020,

Congratulations on completing this incredibly challenging school year filled with so many ups and downs. I know that things were far from perfect this year and we missed out on some fun stuff. However, I believe that like most obstacles in life, we’ll be better off for this! To my students, I love you all so much and I wish you all the best. I hope you continue to live your lives with love and compassion in hopes of making this world a better place.

To my basketball team, growing together as a team over the past two years has meant the world to me. As I’ve watched you learn and grow as athletes, you have all watched me learn and grow as a coach. I am forever grateful for our shared accomplishments and I am humbled to have worked with you.

Ms. Diana

Dear 8th Graders,

When we look back at everything we’ve gone through from getting to know each other in 7th grade, breaking down and building back up, working on film shoots where many of you blossomed, getting ready for high school and sharpening skills, the crying, the laughing, the screaming, the hugging… and then this. It makes me realize that the class of 2020 is resilient and unstoppable. You are so much stronger than you think. So remember this,  “Don’t ask for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.”
Love, Ms. Diana

Mr. Gansa

Middle school is easy, said no one. You morph from a kid to a teen, school work gets hard and your social life can feel whacky. You had to finish this stage of life during a pandemic, global protests against racism and police brutality and an economic recession. You’re strong. One-of-a-kind. Congratulations and special shout-outs to my speech students and the brave ones who started the M.S. 131 GSA!
