The 2024 Arts week at M.S. 131 was a grand spectacle of student creativity! Our visual artists dived into the fantastic pattern design, logo design, perspectives, and colorful landscapes. Our musicians delivered a great concert on a diverse array of instruments – piano, acoustic guitar, voice, electric guitar, xylophone, bass guitar, drums, and violin. Our digital artists mesmerized everyone with their remarkable command over their 3-D design and animation, bringing virtual worlds to life by 3D printing. Our dance students showcased their talent and months of hard practice. The auditorium echoed with the rhythm of various dance forms reflecting the diversity and creativity of the students. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by the young dancers were truly infectious, making it a memorable event for all attendees!

The MS 131 music students got to show off their hard work during their very successful Spring Showcase that took place on June 5th! They spent months learning the repertoire for the performance, which included music by Stevie Wonder, Van Halen, Metallica, Laufey, Dvorak, to name just a few. The instrumentation featured piano, acoustic guitar, voice, electric guitar, xylophone, bass guitar, drums, and violin.
The Digital Arts Showcase:
From Digital Arts teacher, Mr.Wang:
2024 June Digital Art Show features “3D Imaginative Keychain Characters”, “5024-3D Futuristic Architecture”, “Digital Observational Drawing”, “Pixel Art-Snow Day”, “Pixel Art-Solar Eclipse”, “GIF Animation”, and “Narrative Animation” projects. This exhibition was the most successful & diverse show featuring 110 3D printed artwork made by students from 5 different language backgrounds including Chinese, English, Spanish, Russian, and Vietnamese. All digital art projects are made in Adobe Creative Suites including Adobe Photoshop, Pixel Art and 3D modeling platform, Tinkercad.com.
Students devoted weeks to develop both artmaking skills and art literacy skills for each project. By doing innovative digital art projects both individually and collaboratively, students have been learning the latest design industry software while learning their own cultural heritage, identity, and interests.
The Dance Performance:
From Dance teacher, Ms.Loreal:
MS 131 dance students took charge of their learning experience and decided what style of dance they wanted to learn. Through this process of discovery, students learned how to collaborate with one another, improvise and present the work they created. As time progressed, the students practiced hard work and dedication through the process of learning challenging choreography. Each class is proud of the performance they gave!
